What is TMH and what is it used for?
Trimethylhexanal, or TMH for short, is a branched aldehyde with high isomeric purity, used as an intermediate for the production of high-performance lubricants (especially cooling lubricants) and lubricant additives, as well as a component and intermediate for specialty products in the cosmetics and fragrance industries (especially 3,5,5 trimethylhexanol). Thanks to its high purity of more than 95 percent and, in particular, its minimal content of highly volatile by-products, our TMH can generally be used directly in the company's own production process without the need for additional purification - saving both time and money.
A few technical details:
Trimethylhexanal is a colorless liquid with low water solubility. Storage and further processing of trimethylhexanal must be carried out under strictly controlled conditions (trimethylhexanal is registered under REACH as an "isolated/transported intermediate") and under exclusion of oxygen due to its high reactivity.

Where is TMH produced and how is it transported?
In our state-of-the-art C4 Verbund, we process various exclusively C4-based feedstock streams from steam crackers and refineries, such as crude-C4 (so-called CC4) or FCC-C4 (fluid catalytic cracking-C4). The high C4 flow purity of the intermediates enables the production of particularly high-quality derivatives. The use of special purification and processing technologies safely eliminates any undesirable impurities. Our continuous production ensures the constant and reliable availability of our products.
Trimethylhexanal is produced on the basis of high-purity diisobutene in dedicated production facilities at Evonik's largest production location in Marl, Germany. We offer our customers trimethylhexanal in tank trucks and special tank containers. Further packaging options are available on request.
