Solvents for pharmaceuticals & agrochemicals

DRIVERON®

DRIVERON®, our high-purity MTBE, is the preferred solvent for all chemical syntheses requiring high purity and low water content e.g. for agrochemicals.

What is DRIVERON®?

Under the brand name DRIVERON®, our customers obtain solvents for applications in the pharmaceutical industry or the production of fine and agrochemicals, among others. DRIVERON® is the solvent of choice for all chemical and pharmaceutical syntheses and production processes that require high solvent purity and, in particular, low water content. As a high-purity MTBE (methyl tert-butyl ether), DRIVERON® is a volatile, clear, colorless liquid with low viscosity and a characteristic terpene-like odor. The solvents are stable in air and oxygen. If MTBE is split chemically, it is decomposed into its starting materials isobutene and methanol, making it ideal for chemical recycling.

In contrast to the competing systems tetrahydrofuran (THF) and diethyl ether, high-purity MTBE does not form peroxides, which means that autoxidation to hydroperoxides does not occur. Peroxides are labile chemical compounds that tend to spontaneous self-accelerated decomposition and explosive behavior, especially at higher concentrations and increased temperature. They are fire-promoting and can react with oxidizable substances with spontaneous ignition. DRIVERON® solvents thus offer our customers a safe and reliable production process for high-quality chemical products, agrochemicals or pharmaceuticals.

What are DRIVERON® solvents used for?

MTBE can be used as a solvent for various chemical reactions and purification processes, such as extractions but also for preparative column chromatography/chromatographic purification processes (e.g. natural products, natural product syntheses, synthetic building blocks).

The main applications in reactions are so-called organometallic syntheses. That is, the preparation and conversion of Grignard and organolithium compounds for active ingredient synthesis in the manufacturing processes of pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals.

Due to their high purity, DRIVERON® solvents have such a low water content, for example, that time-consuming pre-drying is generally not necessary when producing e.g. agrochemicals. The solvents can also be removed relatively easily and completely, e.g. by distillation, from a reaction mixture. They are not a component of our customers' end products and are recyclable: this means that our customers, manufacturers of pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals, can use the solvents several times and feed them into their production process in a closed loop.

In addition to economic and ecological advantages, this also offers greater process and product safety for the further processing stages in the production of active pharmaceutical ingredients, agrochemicals, and other high-quality chemical products.

DRIVERON® solvents - a few technical details

DRIVERON® is mixable with all common hydrocarbons and organic solvents. However, it has limited mixability with water. DRIVERON® solvents are essentially inert, meaning they do not participate in the respective chemical reaction.

We offer our DRIVERON® solvents in two different grades:

DRIVERON® S, with a purity of at least 99.9%, is particularly well suited as a solvent to produce active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and pharmaceutical products, as well as to produce fine chemicals.

Here you will find further product information (e.g. technical data sheet, MSDS) on DRIVERON® S.

DRIVERON® T, with a purity of at least 99.7% is very well suited as a solvent to produce agrochemicals. In addition, DRIVERON® T is also used to produce particularly high-quality special fuels, e.g. for the racing industry.

Here you will find further product information (e.g. technical data sheet, MSDS) on DRIVERON® T.

Where is DRIVERON® produced and how is it transported?

In our state-of-the-art C4-Verbund, we process various raw material streams such as crude-C4 or FCC-C4 (Fluid Catalytic Cracking - C4) from steam crackers or refineries. We produce the DRIVERON® solvents at our site in Marl, Germany. During production, we place emphasis on innovative purification steps and comprehensive analyses from the raw material to the finished product. For example, we use high-purity distillation to guarantee the special product quality of our solvents. Dedicated production offers our customers increased supply security and flexibility. Our solvents are available globally.

Our customers can obtain both products via different routes: either by tank truck, tank container or in drums. We offer deliveries of drums in full container load (FCL). This means 4 drums per pallet and 80 drums per FCL for overseas shipment or 88 drums each for road transport. Each drum contains 145 Kg. MTBE can be stored very well and easily.
