ELATUR® DPT (di-isopentyl terephthalate)
ELATUR® DPT is a fast-gelling, low-viscosity plasticizer with very low SVOC content and high gelling capacity, which is primarily used in the production of PVC plastisols.
Plasticizers from Evonik
Plasticizers from Evonik offer manufacturers of flexible PVC and their products flexibility, safety and above-average technical performance with a consistently high level of quality.
They act like a molecular lubricant: The molecules sandwich themselves between the polymer chains of PVC. This makes the originally tightly-packed, rigid structure flexible, allowing the chains to slide past each other.
Our promises at a glance:
We offer our customers …
- maximum delivery reliability: Our production in the Verbund ensures optimum supply to our customers. As a major producer of oxo alcohols, Evonik can guarantee continuous production of high-quality plasticizers.
- a full service from a single source: We look after each customer from order to delivery according to their individual needs. As a well-coordinated team, we support our customers with technical as well as regulatory knowledge and inform them about new maximum delivery reliability.
- a strong commitment to regulatory issues: Through active participation in various industry associations, Evonik is involved in the public debate surrounding regulatory issues. The aim is to incorporate scientifically sound data into the discussion and extend the life cycle of flexible PVC products.
What is ELATUR® DPT?
ELATUR® DPT is a fast-gelling, low-viscosity plasticizer with a very low SVOC content (SVOC: semi-volatile organic compounds). It is particularly efficient in combination with ELATUR® CH in PVC applications such as floor coverings, wall coverings or films.
With the ELATUR® family, Evonik offers the latest generation of plasticizers. ELATUR® DPT is a modern plasticizer for demanding applications. ELATUR® DPT makes polymer materials flexible and pliable in both their processing and application. Whether it is decorative wallpaper or hard-wearing vinyl flooring, the PVC used in these products is made flexible and pliable by plasticizers, which is why it is so versatile.
What is Elatur® DPT used for?
Flexible, pliable and versatile - these are the requirements for plasticized polyvinyl chloride (PVC). It is originally hard and brittle. The addition of plasticizers also makes PVC a modern plastic with a very wide range of applications. These act like a molecular lubricant, whose molecules are inserted between the polymer chains of the PVC powder, thus transforming the rigid structure into a flexible one. The smaller and more polar the plasticizer molecule, the faster it penetrates the PVC chains (gelation). The compact design of ELATUR® DPT thus leads to a particularly high gelling capacity.
Classic primary plasticizers such as VESTINOL® 9 or ELATUR® CH are characterized by a balanced properties profile, which makes them suitable for a wide range of applications. By using ELATUR® DPT in combination with primary plasticizers, processing time can be significantly reduced while maintaining the high performance of the end product.
A few technical details:
Produced on the basis of pentanol from the C4 Verbund, ELATUR® DPT improves the interaction with the PVC due to its polar character, thus accelerating the processing procedure. At the same time, the special product composition allows storage at low temperatures without the otherwise often necessary trace heating. The benefit to our customers: Energy savings or increased production volumes using existing equipment.
Here you can find further product information (e.g. technical data sheet, SDS, etc.) about ELATUR® DPT, our plasticizer brochure and an overview of our plasticizer portfolio.
Where is ELATUR® DPT produced and how is it transported?
In our state-of-the-art C4 Verbund, we process various raw material streams such as crude-C4 or FCC-C4 (fluid catalytic cracking-C4) from steam crackers or refineries. ELATUR® DPT is based on pentanol and is mainly used for the production of flexible PVC products. The product is produced at Evonik's site in Marl, Germany. We offer our customers the following means of transport for ELATUR® DPT: tank trucks and ISO containers. We provide smaller packaging units via selected distribution partners.
