Using new technology to create a new plasticizer

By mid-January 2018, we were ready to go: In the oxo plant in Marl, we commissioned our new dividing-wall column and began production of a new oxo alcohol. 

Pentanol, the new member of the oxo alcohols family, is used for production of the new, innovative plasticizer ELATUR® DPT. “With this step, we are gaining access to a new substance class with significant growth potential,” says Hinnerk Becker, head of the plasticizers market segment.
 
“The project is an example of how sustainability and chemical processes can be combined. On the one hand, the dividing-wall column is a technology that features high energy efficiency,” explains Tonia Weber, manager of the oxo plant. “And on the other, a previous by-product is reprocessed, and value is added.”
