#14 - Aachener Printen

Tradition from Aachen

The term “original Aachener Printen” (or as locals say: Öcher Printen) applies exclusively to ginger bread that is produced according to a specific recipe from the year 1820 in Aachen/Germany and the neighboring cities Alsdorf, Baesweiler, Eschweiler, Stolberg and Würselen. The term is protected with a strict geographical origin. Traditionally Aachener Printen were seasonal pastries offered in autumn and winter times. However due to their popularity and for touristic reasons they are nowadays offered throughout the whole year. Comparable to the “Dresdner Christstollen”, a kind of dedicated Christmas cake, which is nowadays available throughout the year. Besides being individual pastries, Aachener Printen are also used as ingredients for savory seasonal dishes and various other foods.
