Swen Fritsch – Hydrogen

"Not always in large quantities - but almost always essential."

Swen Fritsch has been employed in various functions in the production of hydrogen for 30 years and has been the Production and Engineering Manager of the hydrogen plant in Marl since 2018. He is responsible for ensuring hydrogen production and thus the supply of hydrogen to the entire Marl Chemical Park. Even if hydrogen is not always needed in large quantities, almost every laboratory and production plant needs hydrogen for its critical processes.

Martin Kirchner has been working for a few months as Product Line Business Controller for C4 products at Performance Intermediates in Marl. In his function he is the contact person for the areas of supply chain, production and marketing in business and strategic issues and develops strategy scenarios as well as recommendations for actions based on business analyses. At the same time, he provides support in such areas as monthly planning, the preparation of forecasts and annual projections as well as the economic evaluation of investment and Verbund projects.

  • APPLICATION: The DRIVOSOL® family includes the aerosol propellants n-butane, isobutane and propane as well as their mixtures. These are used, for example, in spray cans. Customers can flexibly define the pressure stages according to their individual needs with the C4DRIVOSOL® Tuner.

Dirk Fridag is currently working as an R&D Manager for Hydroformylation research in Marl. His main tasks are primarily the optimization of reactions and process development of 2-Propyl-heptanol as well as the process optimization with the help of data mining. Another important area of responsibility includes the backup of know-how in the form of patent applications.

Dr. Andreas Wolff is head of the department "Smart Production" in the area of production & technology. In doing so, Andreas takes care of handling any questions concerning the optimization of the C4-Verbund at the sites in Marl and Antwerp. At the same time, he initiates and coordinates digitalization projects for the plants of the C4-Verbund. The implementation of strategic investment projects is also part of his remit.

Ilka Reinhold works as a chemical laboratory assistant in hydroformylation research at Performance Intermediates in Marl. In her function she synthesizes new phosphorus ligands. Since the ligands are very sensitive to air and moisture, they must be produced using inert gas and Schlenk technology. e associated documentation of the experiments and analysis using LCMS (liquid chromatography with mass spectrometry) is also part of Ilka's other tasks.

The aim of the synthesis laboratory's research is to produce stable and cost-effective phosphorus ligands that ensure fast and high selectivity in the associated oxo processes.

  • APPLICATION: The classic among hydroformylation cocatalysts. OxoPhos® 17 produces excellent conversion rates, which may be as high as 99 percent. The n/iso selectivity of OxoPhos® 17 in isomerizing hydroformylation is particularly high and could even reach 99:1.

Jan-Stephan Gehrke is Head of Controlling & Strategy at Performance Intermediates in Marl. In addition to planning and reporting, his responsibilities include the preparation and processing of financial key figures for upcoming investment decisions. His work focuses on the evaluation and management of strategic options for the optimal orientation of the PI business.

Dr. Tonia Weber meanwhile works as a plant manager of the Oxo plant in Marl. Thereby she is responsible for the production of INA, 2-PH, TMH and ITDA. Her main tasks include optimizing individual processes as well as operational processes and to ensure that the products of the company are manufactured safely, in terms of quality, quantity and on time.

Silke Roessling is Customer Relationship Representative in the Market Segment "Fuel Components" of business line Performance Intermediates. Her main task is the support of our Isobutene customers in Marl/Germany and Antwerp/Belgium. This includes amongst other activities, the entire order-to-cash process from processing of incoming orders, planning of customer demands in coordination with the Logistics Management department, to invoicing.

Hermann-Josef Schulte-Althoff meanwhile works as foreman in production at Performance Intermediates. He is currently responsible for general project support and development in the Oxo plant located in Marl. In addition to the new product development, the revalidation of security concepts for the existing production facilities as well as the supervision of capacity expansions at PI is in the focus of his tasks. The commissioning of the dividing wall column for the Pentanol product was only one of his many projects.

Arnd Schade is currently head of the Rubber & PE Monomers market segment at PI in Marl. His main tasks include the worldwide marketing of around 800,000 tons butadiene, butene-1 and C4-based gases. In addition to the daily customer support, his work also focuses on market development and observation of the individual markets with regard to sustainable end applications, innovations, trends and digitalization options.

Dr. Christine Weiss operates as marketing manager in the market segment of oxo alcohols and surfactants in Marl since 1st of March. In her position, she is mainly focused on customer support and relationship management regarding the optimal usage of our products in relevant markets. Furthermore, Christine is taking care of the market and application development within this segment, e.g. the identification of new applications for our products 2-PH, Pentanol and INA as well as our plasticizers ELATUR® CH, VESTINOL® 9 und VESTINOL® INB.

Dr. Michael Graß is currently group leader in research and product development / application technology for plasticizers in Marl. Together with his team, he is in charge of the entire process from synthesis to sampling to market launch and technical service for our plasticizers. In addition to the research hours in the laboratory, this includes close cooperation with our customers.

Daniela Kock is currently working as a Marketing Manager for the ‘Rubber & PE Monomers’ market segment in Marl. In her position, she is responsible for all marketing activities for the products Isobutane, n-Butane, mixtures of those two products and hydrogen. Market development, customer acquisition and support for existing customers is also in Daniela’s area of responsibility.
