We received the Innovation Award

Each year, Evonik’s internal Innovation Award honors the outstanding research accomplishments of the company’s employees. This year, we took the honors in the “New Methods” category.

Our team of researchers, led by Dr. Markus Winterberg, succeeded in developing a process for using FCC-C4 which enables us to manufacture a broad range of high quality products. The scientists applied a clever combination of classic scale-up experiments with modern modeling techniques to avoid the costly construction of a pilot plant. Since 2015, the method has been in use successfully at the Marl site. In the column that has been installed there, special material flows originating from refineries can now be used to produce C4 chemicals.

“The Innovation Award” is the icing on the cake at the end of a very successful year,” says Rainer Fretzen, head of Performance Intermediates. “Next year, we want to continue to develop our business and to create the future of C4 chemicals together with our customers.”
